A federal judge on Wednesday struck down as unconstitutional a Missouri law requiring sex offenders to post a sign at their homes on Halloween stating "no candy or treats at this residence."
U.S. District Judge John A. Ross of the Eastern District of Missouri granted Thomas L. Sanderson's motion for injunctive relief against the state, holding that the required sign constitutes compelled speech in violation of the First Amendment.
