The U.S. Supreme Court said Monday that it will hear a legal battle over Louisiana's newly enacted congressional map, which a lower court found was an illegal racial gerrymander.
The state's latest map was adopted by the Republican-controlled legislature as a remedy for a previous one that was struck down by a separate court for including only a single majority-Black district, which was deemed a likely violation of the federal Voting Rights Act.
