Voters in two California counties were poised to oust incumbent district attorneys in Tuesday's election, marking a huge, and relatively quick, political pendulum swing away from progressive prosecutors in the Golden State.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón was trailing challenger Nathan Hochman 61% to 39% in returns posted late Tuesday night. The results mirror months of polls showing Hochman, a former assistant U.S. attorney general and current Ross LLP general counsel, leading Gascón by double digits.
