As transactional work in other markets began to rise in 2024, revenue growth and demand for law firms in Washington, D.C. trailed behind the industry in the first nine months of this year, according to new bank data. It's a contrast to how D.C. law firms led the market last year.

“The thing about the D.C. market is that it actually performed well in 2023 when many other markets did not,” said Michael McKenney, a senior specialist at Citi’s Law Firm Group Advisory Team, Citi Global Wealth at Work.
