As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office, the U.S. Department of Justice is poised for a major personnel shakeup, including at the office that litigates on behalf of the federal government at the Supreme Court.

Trump plans to choose D. John Sauer, the Missouri attorney who argued his Supreme Court immunity appeal, as his nominee for U.S. solicitor general in the new administration. In addition to the career deputies, Sauer will be supported by a new “political deputy,” and may hire several new line attorneys as he makes his mark on the solicitor general's office.
