Two federal trial judges have rescinded their plans to take senior status, eliminating the possibility that their vacancies could be filled by Donald Trump when he re-enters the Oval Office.

Judge Max Cogburn Jr., appointed by former president Barack Obama to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, announced in 2022 that he would take senior status upon confirmation of a successor, but his name no longer appears on the judiciary’s list of future vacancies. His chambers did not return a request for comment.
