Elections have consequences. And when a new administration takes charge, opportunities abound to steer a better path forward. But policy changes should be tempered by responsible reflection, not reflexive rejection. The Trump administration has an opportunity to reverse the errors of Biden antitrust policy, for example, and secure a fairer, more consumer-friendly future for our economy—but it should remember that not everything the outgoing regime did was in error.

Some paths taken by the Biden antitrust team, after all, were blazed by the first Trump administration. Many of these actions should continue uninterrupted, although they may need to be cleared of unsound justifications and repaved with more sophisticated economics-based justifications. But generally, if monopolistic practices are used to exploit market positions to weaken the free market and limit consumer choice, then there seems to be widespread support for intervention.
