The U.S. Department of Justice has proposed an update to its Foreign Agents Registration Act regulations that could mark the biggest change to the lobbying regulation in 30 years, attorneys said this week.
FARA requires certain lobbyists and organizations to register as foreign agents if they have ties to foreign governments. The 1938 law is intended provide Americans transparency about foreign influence in the United States but does not ban any sort of foreign lobbying.
