The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday appeared largely sympathetic to a Texas law requiring porn and other sexually explicit websites to verify the ages of their users, which the adult entertainment industry has challenged as burdening the First Amendment rights of adults.

The justices heard arguments in Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton, in which a trade association representing websites like Pornhub has asked the court to reinstate an injunction against Texas' H.B.1181. The law requires websites that post significant sexual material to demand identification from online users with penalties ranging up to $10,000 per day.
