After much fanfare about how DOGE could shrink government and reshape the regulatory regime, President Donald Trump’s executive order establishing a Department of Government Efficiency did—at least so far—little more than rename and restructure an existing agency.

Under the order, signed Monday, the U.S. Digital Service will be renamed the U.S. DOGE Service, charged with “modernizing Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.” The order also directs agency heads to create a DOGE team of at least four employees at their respective agencies.
