The U.S. Supreme Court appears ready to bring back an excessive force lawsuit from the parent of an unarmed Black man whom a Texas police officer fatally shot during a routine traffic stop in 2016.

During oral arguments Wednesday, the justices suggested they were open to a narrow ruling that would send the case back to a federal appeals court to conduct the proper test to determine whether Harris County police officer Roberto Felix used unconstitutionally excessive force when he shot Ashtian Barnes to death on the side of a Houston highway.
