Antitrust scholars have long debated the effectiveness of having two federal agencies charged with enforcing competition law. A bill reintroduced in Congress this month would eliminate that double-barreled system.
The proposed One Agency Act would transfer Federal Trade Commission antitrust enforcement to the U.S. Department of Justice, leaving enforcement entirely with the DOJ and the executive branch.
