The U.S. Supreme Court has denied Georgia’s chance to revive a 2003 agreement between the state and federal authorities that set aside a portion of Lake Lanier to supply drinking water to metro Atlanta.

Without comment, the justices Monday let stand the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit’s reversal of a lower court’s approval of the 2003 pact between Georgia and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. That deal would have earmarked up to a quarter of Lake Lanier to be used only as drinking-water supply for more than 3 million metro Atlanta residents.
