CNA Corp. operates the federally funded Center for Naval Analyses and the Institute for Public Research. Its job is to provide objective, empirical research and analysis to government leaders, particularly in the Department of Defense and the U.S. Navy. Operating at the intersection of government, science and industry, CNA grapples with problems of security and defense, education, health care and public health. The nonprofit organization also focuses on domestic security and air traffic management. CNA dates to 1942, when it helped thwart the German U-Boat peril. The organization is berthed in Alexandria, Va., and has approximately 700 employees.
