Six so-called prepackaged bankruptcies, which companies prepare with creditors to take effect after bankruptcy, were filed in the first quarter of 2009, compared with four in 2008, according to credit and debt rating giant Standard & Poor’s (S&P).

The BankruptcyData.com division of New Generation Research Inc. in Boston, which also tracks bankruptcy filings, noted an upward trend but counted a different number of cases. According to BankruptcyData.com, a dozen prepacks were filed in 2008 and eight in 2009 through the end of April.
