Westwood One Inc. is the largest independent producer and distributor of network radio programming and traffic information in the United States. It serves more than 5,000 affiliated radio and television stations, which broadcast more than 150 of Westwood One’s news, sports, music and talk shows. Entertainment programs, features and live events round out the lineup. The company broadcasts live concerts and holds exclusive national radio rights to countless sporting events.
Westwood One’s Metro Networks division dispenses Shadow Traffic reporting and local news, sports and weather to approximately 2,200 radio and TV stations. Its talent roster includes Rachael Ray, Larry King, Dr. Phil, Charles Osgood and various political talking heads. It distributes the audio of “Meet the Press.” Westwood One was founded in Los Angeles in 1976, with its syndication of radio program “The Sound of Motown” serving as a springboard to future endeavors. Now based in New York, Westwood One has 1,600 employees and took in an estimated $400 million in revenue for 2008. It is publicly traded.
