Jiangsu Tongrun Machinery & Electrical Group Co. is the world’s largest manufacturer of hydraulic automotive jacks and toolboxes. Founded in 1954 in China as a handicraft collective, the company now has about 2,500 employees, including 567 engineers. Its U.S. operations are based in a 100,000-square-foot facility in Ontario, Calif. Jiangsu Tongrun’s jacks are sold under the Craftsman name at Sears stores and to Ford Motor Co., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Costco Wholesale Corp., among others. Its heavy-duty toolboxes carry the Torin Big Red label. The company’s other products include elevator-traction machinery and parts and steel furniture. Worldwide annual revenue is about $100 million.
