If a law firm wanted to describe itself as an international player five years ago, it had better be in China or well on its way to staking a claim there. Loosened restrictions on foreign investments and other regulatory changes connected with its entry into the World Trade Organization made China the Next Big Thing for law firms looking to expand.
Today, some 56 firms on the NLJ 250, The National Law Journal‘s annual survey of the nation’s largest law firms, have offices in Hong Kong or mainland China or both.
