MILLER & MARTIN (Chattanooga, Tenn.): Melvin Malone, managing partner of the firm’s Nash­ville, Tenn., office, has been named chairman of the firm. Malone is the first African-American named to this position at the firm. He is a member of the firm’s telecommunications and utilities, government relations and litigation practice groups.

Nixon Peabody: Timothy Mungovan, a partner in the firm’s financial services litigation practice group in Boston, has been named head of the firm’s commercial litigation practice. The practice includes more than 100 attorneys firmwide. Mungovan co-heads the alternative-investments litigation team. He focuses on high-stakes business litigation matters, with an emphasis on disputes involving alternative investments, securities and corporate governance.
