SAN FRANCISCO — After eight years of litigation in a breach-of-contract case, a jury has returned a defense verdict for semiconductor equipment company Novellus Systems Inc. and another defendant.
Nearly $200 million in damages was at stake in the case, which centered on equipment that Novellus sells for making computer chips. After buying from Novellus, Linear Technology Corp. was sued by Texas Instruments Inc., which argued that the way Linear was using the Novellus equipment infringed on Texas Instruments patents.
