The floodgates opened last week when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) formally asked for public comments on whether the $30 billion merger of Comcast Corp. and NBC Universal serves the public interest. The two companies are already armed with some of the biggest guns in the telecom bar, according to documents filed with the FCC.

Comcast, the nation’s largest cable company, has hired Willkie Farr & Gallagher partners Michael Hammer and James Casserly. Hammer represented AT&T Inc. when it merged with Comcast in 2002.
