Sessions, the Senate Judiciary Committee’s top-ranking GOP member, has strongly and repeatedly criticized Kagan for barring military recruiters from the Office of Career Services at Harvard Law School when she was dean because military discrimination against gays and lesbians violated Harvard policy. Now he’s signalled his intent to pursue the issue in Kagan’s confirmation hearing.

Sessions sent a June 2 letter to Department of Defense General Counsel Jeh Johnson, asking for all records related to military recruitment efforts at Harvard Law School and Harvard University from 1997 through 2009 — and he wants them by June 11. Johnson will respond to Sessions “at the appropriate time,” said department spokeswoman Cynthia Smith.
