Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenn Kirschner was blunt: He said Joseph Price, Victor Zaborsky and Dylan Ward had successfully covered up the circumstances of the 2006 murder of Washington lawyer Robert Wone. After five weeks of trial in D.C. Superior Court, Kirschner and defense lawyers Thomas Connolly, Bernard Grimm and David Schertler made their closing arguments on June 24. Kirschner said the housemates have stuck together for nearly four years, lying and misdirecting the police, and they will fall together in what he called “mutual destruction.” The defense lawyers assailed the prosecution’s case as one built on speculation with no direct evidence. Zaborsky “wouldn’t cover up a murder, no matter who committed it,” Connolly said. Judge Lynn Leibovitz is both judge and jury. During the closings, she peppered Kirschner with questions, grilling him on intent and pressing him to spell out the government’s theory. “Am I done?” Kirschner asked, drawing laughter from court observers. “I think I’m done.” Leibovitz is expected to rule on June 29. — Mike Scarcella and Jeff Jeffrey
