Randall Crocker has learned the art of maneuvering. As the president and chief executive of 110-lawyer von Briesen & Roper in Milwaukee, he is seeing an uptick, small as it may be, in mergers and acquisitions work these days. Indeed, the firm has experienced “double-digit” revenue growth for the past eight years, he said, although he declined to give hard numbers.

Von Briesen & Roper focuses on health care, corporate work, litigation, banking and bankruptcies. Clients include T-Mobile USA Inc., Green Bay Packaging Inc. and Affinity Health and Medical Systems Inc. Part of the firm’s good fortune — and it has been especially good considering the hit absorbed by Milwaukee’s manufacturing and mechanical industry base during the recession — stemmed from putting more of the firm’s resources into its bankruptcy and restructuring practices as businesses began to falter in Brew City. A sluggish job market during the past two years has helped the firm recruit strong laterals and recent graduates, he said.
