The recession is releasing its stranglehold on the St. Louis legal market. At least that’s what the hiring practices at Armstrong Teasdale suggest. The firm of nearly 250 lawyers is moving at supersonic speed this year to lure the latest law school graduates. The firm wasted no time after Missouri administered the bar exam during the last week in July. “They just took the bar and we’re trying to get them in here as early as next week,” said Michael Chivell, managing partner at Armstrong Teasdale.

Why the rush? “Our business has picked up, so it’s expedited having our new hires start with us…and we have practice areas that are in need of people,” Chivell said. “I think people are a bit more optimistic than they were.”
