THE FIGHT GOES ON
Since 2005, Williams & Connolly has been using the federal public records law to squeeze documents from the government about the Cendant Corp. fraud investigation. Brendan Sullivan Jr., the leading defense lawyer for former Cendant Chairman Walter Forbes, couldn’t keep his client from prison in 2006. Nevertheless, the firm hasn’t given up fighting for U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission records. On Aug. 4, a federal judge in Washington delivered a partial victory to the firm, ordering the SEC to release a redacted settlement report tied to the Cendant investigation. No early word on whether either side will appeal. — Mike Scarcella
