The roots of Stuart Weitzman Holdings LLC go back to 1986, when the company was founded in New York by the designer of the same name. Today the company has about 300 employees in the United States and 1,600 in Spain, where it does its manufacturing. It reported revenue of $193 million for fiscal year 2009. The business operates 38 stores in the United States and seven in Europe. In June, Jones Apparel Group Inc. paid $180 million for a 55% stake in the privately held holding company.
