J. Thomas Schieffer, 62, has joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld as senior counsel. He will work in the firm’s Washington, Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, offices. Previously, Schieffer was a U.S. ambassador to Australia and Japan. He advises clients on global energy, trade, transportation, defense and intelligence industries. He earned the Distinguished Public Service Award, the highest civilian honor, from the Pentagon for strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance.
