Noble Energy Inc. is an international oil and natural gas exploration and production company. Founded by Lloyd Noble in 1932, it originated as Samedan Oil Corp. and concentrated on oil and gas exploration, drilling and trucking. Noble was one of the first independent producers to drill in the Gulf of Mexico, where it has reached depths of 30,000 feet. It operates extensively in the Rocky Mountains and has overseas operations in South America, Israel, West Africa and China.
Formerly based in Oklahoma, Noble is headquartered in Houston. It reported 2009 revenues of $2.3 billion, securing it No. 758 on the Fortune 1,000. Approximately 1,600 Noble employees are deployed worldwide.
