DynCorp International Inc. is a private company that works under contract for U.S. national security policymakers. The company’s roots were in aviation — it sprang from two companies, Land-Air Inc. and California Eastern Airways Inc., and still offers maintenance services for commercial aviation plus foreign and U.S. military operations; it even maintains Air Force One.
The main focus has shifted, however, to contract support for the U.S. departments of State and Defense. DynCorp organizes training for police forces in Afghanistan, Iraq and post-conflict nations. In 2008, it won renewal of a 10-year contract worth as much as $5 billion per year to provide logistical support for the U.S. military in the Middle East.
