Lawyers on both sides of the Atlantic have quickly attached themselves to Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. and targets of the phone hacking that unleashed the scandal that has engulfed the international media giant. The attorneys come from a variety of firms in the United States and the United Kingdom. They include members of the British Parliament’s House of Lords, a former U.S. attorney general and a lawyer to several former British prime ministers. The National Law Journal takes a look at these attorneys.

Mark Devereux is a senior partner at London’s Olswang, which he helped establish. U.K. publication Legal Week earlier this month reported that News International, News Corp.’s British newspaper subsidiary, hired Devereux and fellow Olswang lawyer Dan Tench (see below) as advisers. Devereux, a powerful legal fixture in Britain, has advised a number of individuals and companies in the media industry, including Rupert Murdoch’s production company, Shine Group, according to the Guardian.
