Lawyers at Zuckerman Spaeder gave generously to President Barack Obama’s campaign in 2007 and 2008. After Obama won, partner Norman Eisen left to be a special White House counsel and is now the ambassador to the Czech Republic. Another former partner, Ronald Weich, is the assistant attorney general for legislative affairs.

Now, the ties between the firm and the Obama administration are even tighter. After 23 years, partner Leslie Kiernan has left to become a deputy White House counsel. She started last week as one of three deputies reporting to Kathryn Ruemmler — who is a former Zuckerman associate herself. While Kiernan’s portfolio is expected to be broad, she brings particular expertise in ethics and the vetting of high-level nominees.
