Vectren Corp.’s subsidiaries deliver natural gas and electricity to more than 1 million customers in territories covering two-thirds of Indiana and much of central Ohio. The company provides wholesale electricity to other Midwest utilities and power marketers. Vectren’s sources of power include natural gas, landfill gas, coal and wind, as well as power it purchases from other utilities.

Established in 2000, the Evansville, Ind.-based company has more than 4,000 employees. Last year’s revenues of $2.2 billion propelled it to No. 801 on the Fortune 1,000. Vectren says that it derived its name “vector” and “energy” to connote perpetual motion.
