Across the country, the demand for public-interest legal services has never been more urgently needed, Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. said in a speech Oct. 20, praising the work of a Washington group that has dedicated itself to the cause for more than two decades.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Equal Justice Works, Holder heralded the group for raising awareness about “deficiencies and disparities” and for establishing a “vitally important meeting ground” for attorneys, including prosecutors, public defenders, judges and general counsel, to share ideas about how best to provide legal services to the poor.
