A dozen former professional players on Dec. 5 sued the National Football League, claiming a flawed policy on concussions caused them long-term brain injuries. Former New York Giants fullback Jim Finn was among those claiming that the league turned a blind eye to evidence of the risks of multiple concussions — all to keep players on the field and protect its interests.

TRANSGENDER RULING

Less than one week after entertaining oral argument, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit ruled on Dec. 6 that a transgender woman should return to her job at the Georgia Legislature. The plaintiff, who was born a biological male, lost her job as an editor in the state’s Office of Legislative Counsel after she told a supervisor she would be coming to work as a woman and changing her legal name to a female name.
