Grainger features 315,000 products in its catalog, lists another 180,000 on its Web site and can provide an additional half-million items through outside sources. It generates more than $2 billion in electronic-commerce sales, ranking No. 15 on Internet Retailer‘s Top 500 guide to e-commerce leaders.

The company was established 85 years ago by William Wallace Grainger, whose son still maintains an office in company headquarters in Lake Forest, Ill. Grainger has more than 21,000 employees, and 2011 sales of $8.1 billion translated into the No. 328 slot on the Fortune 500.
