Federal prosecutors on April 24 filed the first criminal charges flowing from the deadly Deepwater Horizon explosion and leak, which became the worst environmental disaster in the country’s history. The government charged Kurt Mix, a former engineer for BP PLC, with obstruction of justice for allegedly intentionally destroying evidence that authorities wanted to review.
HALLIBURTON OBJECTS
Halliburton Co. on April 24 filed an objection to the proposed $7.8 billion settlement announced in early March between BP PLC and plaintiffs lawyers in the multidistrict litigation over the Gulf oil spill. The company cited multiple problems, including that it hasn’t had enough time to review the deal.
