One day after announcing his resignation as Illinois’ longest-serving U.S. attorney, Patrick Fitzgerald made it clear that his future won’t include electoral politics. But if a job call came and “public service” was on the caller I.D., he said, “I’d take the call.”

During a news conference in Chicago, Fitzgerald reiterated that he had no immediate plans after he leaves office on June 30, other than to take the summer off and spend time with his wife and two young children. “I don’t know what I’m doing next, but I love public service. It’s in my blood,” he said.
