A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on August 30 refused to allow Texas to implement its voter photo ID law, with Judge David Tatel writing that the “stringent” measure “will almost certainly have retrogressive effect” on racial minorities and the poor. Two days earlier, a different panel said the state’s redistricting plan discriminated against black and Hispanic voters.
BAKER RAKES IT IN
Baker & McKenzie has retained its position as the world’s largest law firm by revenue, posting record billings for the fiscal year ended June 30. The firm’s gross revenue inched up by 2 percent to a new high of $2.313 billion, $66 million ahead of second-place DLA Piper.
