Some Washington attorneys put their billable hours on hold on October 10 to take in the first baseball playoff game played there since 1933. Sidley Austin partner Carter Phillips was in the stands cheering on the Washington Nationals. “It was quite electric at the beginning of the game,” Phillips said. Aside from firing off a couple of emails and answering a call, Phillips said he was focused on the game.

Arnold & Porter partners Robert Garrett and George Covucci were also in attendance. “I think the firm appreciates a work/life balance and [baseball] is part of the balance,” Covucci said. Major League Baseball has been one of Garrett’s principal clients for more than 30 years. Despite the 8-0 stomping of the Nationals by the St. Louis Cardinals, the attorneys said they were excited to witness the end of the D.C. playoff drought.
