When Mitt Romney addressed the NAACP at the group’s annual convention this summer, he spoke about unemployment in the black community, the need for strong families and the power of free enterprise.

The Republican presidential candidate didn’t touch the protection of voting rights, a hallmark under Attorney General Eric Holder Jr.’s leadership of the U.S. Justice Department. Vice President Joe Biden, at the same Houston conference, criticized Republican-led efforts that he argued are attempts to restrict the right to vote.
