The Weather Channel LLC operates a 24-hour cable service that provides national and local weather reports and news to an estimated 100 million households. The company is controlled by TWCC Holding Corp., a consortium comprising NBCUniversal Media LLC, Bain Capital LLC and The Blackstone Group L.P. Its Weather.com reaches 60 million digital users, and the company provides weather reports to 600 radio stations.
A separate unit sells weather information to customers in industries including aviation, insurance, marine and the news media, plus commodities traders. The growing importance of these non-TV enterprises was reflected in a pending name change, to The Weather Co. The private company is headquartered in Atlanta.
