Nixon Peabody: Denise Pursley, a partner in the firm’s Jericho, N.Y., office, has been named leader of the real estate practice. Pursley focuses on real estate, environmental, finance and land-use law. She succeeds Justine Wilcox, who will continue to practice on various aspects of real estate law at the firm.

Barnes & Thornburg (Indianapolis): Matthew Gruenberg joins the firm as partner in the Los Angeles office and chairman of the franchising and distribution law practice group. He will focus on domestic and international franchising, licensing and distribution matters. Previously, Gruenberg was a name partner at Gruenberg Garnett Harris. Additionally, Frank Scutch joins the firm’s intellectual property department as partner in the Grand Rapids, Mich., office and will focus on electrical, mechanical and software inventions. Previously, Scutch was a partner at Price Heneveld.
