As the U.S. Treasury Department developed a plan to restructure General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft was at the agency’s side at a cost of millions of dollars to taxpayers.
From fiscal 2008 to fiscal 2012, Cadwalader was awarded $26.8 million for assisting the Treasury Department with work that included the Automotive Industry Financing Program under the Troubled Asset Relief Program, better known as TARP. Hunton & Williams was the only law firm that was awarded more money for legal work during that period.
