Lawyers for Johnson & Johnson unit DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. announced on Tuesday that the company would pay $2.5 billion to settle lawsuits filed by an estimated 8,000 patients who, as of Aug. 31, 2013, had undergone surgery to replace one if its ASR hip implants.
