If you feel the need to stay connected to the U.S. Supreme Court even over the holidays, here is one way: whip up some egg nog the same way that the late Chief Justice Harlan Fiske Stone made it.

The Green Bag law review found it in Stone’s papers and first published the recipe in 1998, noting that the recipe was attributed to someone named “Harry Parker.”

Then-Chief Justice William Rehnquist solved the mystery, writing a letter to the editor to identify Parker as a messenger for Justice Robert Jackson, for whom Rehnquist clerked in 1952 and 1953.

A word of caution: this eggnog is wonderful, but potent. Do not plan to drive or do much of anything after drinking it. Other advice: The recipe can be halved; to avoid the risk of salmonella, using pasteurized eggs may be wise.

Here is the recipe, as rendered by The Green Bag.
