Lawyers tied up in the defamation suit brought by a former U.S. Department of Agriculture official against the late conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart are on a “fishing expedition” in their demand from information from the federal government, the U.S. Justice Department says in new court documents.
Former USDA official Shirley Sherrod sued Breitbart and one of his colleagues, Larry O’Connor, over material posted online about Sherrod. The United States isn’t a party to the case, but lawyers on both sides want to review information from the USDA and the Executive Office of the President.
