A Milwaukee police officer’s constitutional rights were not violated when a supervisor refused to let him leave the scene of a search even though the officer said his need to use a restroom was particularly urgent, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled.

The appeals court said on Feb. 19 that Officer Montell Carter was not unlawfully seized or searched when police Lt. Keith Eccher told Carter he must emove his coat, vest and shoes and be patted down before he could leave the area. Carter and other officers were participating in the execution of a search warrant at an apartment.
