The rift is widening between House Republicans and the U.S. Department of Justice as lawyers for a congressional committee accuse the agency of making inappropriate statements in a pending lawsuit rooted in a controversial gun investigation.
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform sued Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. more than a year ago to obtain certain documents about the botched gun-smuggling sting operation, Fast and Furious. President Obama, at Holder’s request, asserted executive privilege to keep the information out of the hands of congressional investigators.
