A California consumer of a PepsiCo Inc. product has filed a federal class action that accuses the soft-drink manufacturer of not disclosing the presence of a cancer-causing chemical that gives Pepsi One its caramel color.

Orange County resident Kelly Ree contends that PepsiCo risked the health of customers by omitting from the list of ingredients the chemical 4-methylimidazole, or 4-MeI, which has been on California’s Proposition 65 list of “Chemicals Known to the State to Cause Cancer or Reproductive Toxicity” since 2011.
